Award Season

This is a crazy time of year for Clemson football. Last week the staff tried to sneak in a few in-home visits with prospects, but the majority of the staff is on the road this week recruiting. This is the final week of recruiting until January due to the upcoming dead period.

It is also exam week at Clemson and the players are doing their best to keep up the high standards in the classroom. However, some players will miss time due to a busy award presentation schedule.

According to their websites, here are the awards that will go out this week and the Tigers competition for each award:

Bronco Nagurski Award

One award was given out Monday night. Tyler Matakevich is the winner of the Bronko Nagurski Award, which is awarded annually to the nation's top defensive player. The Temple linebacker accepted the honor from the Charlotte Touchdown Club in conjunction with the Football Writers Association at a banquet Monday night in Charlotte. Matakevich beat four other finalists: Duke defensive back Jeremy Cash, Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson, Penn State defensive end Carl Nassib and Alabama linebacker Reggie Ragland.

Lombardi Award

The Rotary Club of Houston sponsors the 2015 Rotary Lombardi Award, presented annually since 1970 to the nation’s top college football lineman.

The 46th Rotary Lombardi Award finalists are:

Joey Bosa Ohio State

Myles Garrett Texas A&M

Shaq Lawson Clemson

Carl Nassib Penn State.

The 2015 honoree will be announced at the Rotary Lombardi Award presentation tonight, at the Revention Music Center in downtown Houston, Texas. This year’s Rotary Lombardi Award ceremony will be broadcast by FOX Sports Southwest.

Hendricks Award

The Ted Hendricks Award goes to the nation's top defensive end. This year's finalist are: DeForest Buckner Oregon

Shilque Calhoun Michigan State

Myles Garrett Texas A&M

Carl Nassib Penn State

Shaq Lawson Clemson.

The winner will be announced tonight.

Mackey Award

The John Mackey Award goes to the nation's top tight end. The three finalists for the 2015 John Mackey Award are:

Hunter Henry Arkansas

Austin Hooper Stanford

Jordan Leggett Clemson

The 2015 John Mackey Award recipient will be announced on December 9, 2015, and presented live on December 10, 2015 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show: 6:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

Davey O'Brien Award

The Davey O'Brien Award goes to the nation's top quarterback. This year's finalists are: Deshaun Watson Clemson

Trevone Boykin TCU

Baker Mayfield Oklahoma.

The winner will be announced December 10th at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN.

Walter Camp Award

The Walter Camp Trophy is awarded to the outstanding player of the year.

The finalists for the award are:

Deshaun Watson Clemson

Derrick Henry Alabama

Christain McCaffrey Stanford

Baker Mayfield Oklahoma

Desmond King Iowa.

The winner will be announced December 10 on ESPN Sports Center.

Heisman Trophy

The Heisman Trophy is the most famous trophy in college football. It goes to the nation's most outstanding player. The finalists for the Heisman Trophy are:

Deshaun Watson Clemson

Derrick Henry Alabama

Christian McCaffrey Stanford

The winner will be announced on ESPN December 12.

Broyles Award

The Broyles Award goes to the nation's top assistant coach. Lincoln Riley of Oklahoma won the award yesterday.

This year's other finalists were:

Kirby Smart Alabama

Eddie Robinson Award

The Eddie Robinson Award goes to the nation's top head coach. It will be awarded on December 16.
