and Nuk Hopkins. Watkins had 82 receptions for 1,219 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is the pre-season ACC Preseason Player of Year. Hopkins had a great season last year with 72 catches for 978 yards and five scores. He had an even better spring and is poised for a huge season. Add to the list Jaron BrownJaron Brown

and you have one of the top two wide receiver corps in the nation along with Southern Cal.

2. Florida State

The Seminoles have a top five group of receivers in my opinion. Like Clemson they also have depth. Rashad Greene had a big freshman season with 38 receptions for 596 yards and seven touchdowns. Christian Green was another terrific freshman who had 26 catches for 450 yards. Rodney Smith is the 6-6, 220-pound big play guy who averaged over 15 yards per catch last year. Kenny Shaw and Willie Haulstead also return.

3. North Carolina

The Tar Heels will miss Dwight Jones' big body and his 85 receptions for 1,196 yards and 12 scores, but they do return two other starters. Erik Highsmith had 51 receptions for 726 yards and five scores last season. Jheranie Boyd still has underachieved. Last year he had 14 receptions for 292 yards and five scores.

4. Maryland

The Terps return Kevin Dorsey who had 45 receptions for 573 yards and three touchdowns and Kerry Boykins who added 37 catches for 430 yards from an offense that could not throw the ball. The real threat here comes in the form of true freshman Stefon Diggs. Some think he can have a season close to what Sammy Watkins did for Clemson as a freshman.

5. Boston College

There is nothing spectacular here but this is a solid unit. Bobby Swigert, Colin Larmond and Alex Amidon combined for 98 receptions for 1,218 yards and seven touchdowns. This is not an overly athletic group but they are productive.

6. Miami

The Canes will miss Tommy Streeter who had 46 receptions for 811 yards and eight touchdowns and Travis Benjamin who accounted for 41 catches for 609 yards and three scores. Allen Hurns is the leading returner who had 31 receptions for 415 yards and four touchdowns but there is little experience behind him. Most these receivers were three and four star guys from South Florida who have a great chance to surprise this season.

7. Duke

The Blue Devils are led by pre-season All-ACC receiver Conner Vernon. As a junior Vernon had 70 receptions for 956 yards and six scores. Jamison Crowder also returns as a starter.

8. Wake Forest

Wake will miss Chris Gives who left for the NFL early. Last season he had 83 catches for 1,330 yards and nine scores. I really like Michael Campanaro though. A season ago he had 73 receptions for 833 yards and two scores. Against Clemson Campanaro had nine catches for 72 yards. Terrence Davis also returns after 20 catches for 269 yards last season.

9. Virginia Tech

The Hokies lost two of their top receivers in school history in Jarrett Boykin and Danny Coale who combined for 121 catches and 1,665 yards for eight touchdowns last year. Marcus Davis is a big wide out that will be the new number one threat. Last year he had 30 receptions for 510 yards and five touchdowns. D.J. Coles gives the Hokies another big receiver.

10. NC State

Mike Glennon returns but most of the NC State receivers are gone. The speedster in TJ Graham is gone. So is Jay Smith and All-ACC tight end George Bryan. Tobias Palmer is the leading returning receiver. He had 37 catches for 496 yards and five touchdowns as a junior. Bryan Underwood also returns.

11. Virginia

Virginia has Phillip Sims coming in at quarterback, two terrific backs and perhaps the best offensive line in the conference. However, I cannot find a whole of nice things to say about their wide outs. Tim Smith returns after catching 33 balls for 565 yards and three scores. Darius Jennings had a pretty good freshman season also.

12. Georgia Tech

I am not sure I have ever seen this before but Tech does not return a single wide out that has a single reception in his career. This is a program that has featured players like Calvin Johnson, Demarius Thomas and Stephen Hill. This offense does not rely on the receiver but I have never seen zero returning career receptions.
