Welcome Back Festival to Kick Off Clemson Semester

CLEMSON — Thousands of people will flock to downtown Clemson to enjoy food, games, giveaways and music to kick off the new school year at the Welcome Back Festival Monday, Aug. 18, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on College Avenue.


More than 60 local businesses and university organizations will have samples and prizes. Tickets can be purchased for 50 cents each, with proceeds going to the Student Alumni Council Endowment Fund, which helps fund scholarships. Admission to the festival is free and open to the public.


Clemson University President James F. Barker and Clemson Mayor Larry Abernathy will welcome the crowd.The Clemson Rally Cats, the Tiger mascot, the cheerleaders and other keynote guests will provide entertainment on the stage.


The Welcome Back Festival is sponsored by the Clemson Student Alumni Council and Clemson Alumni Association, with support from the city of Clemson and area businesses.


The fun will spill across the street onto Bowman Field, for the Bowman Block Party from 7 p.m. to midnight, hosted by CLEMSONLiVE and Clemson’s student media. This free concert will feature performances from Mae West, Picture Me Free, Granola Funk Express and Meg Alison and Josh Stevens. The Clemson Apple Store will offer free giveaways and prizes, such as Epson printers, Sony headphone and iPods.


In the event of heavy rain, the Welcome Back Festival will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20. The Bowman Block Party will still be held Aug. 18 and moved to Tillman Hall auditorium.
