Clemson, SC--The Clemson Golf Team will open its spring schedule

February 8-10 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The University of North

Florida will be the host of the three-day 54-hole event at Sawgrass

Country Club.

This year's field includes the top three teams in the Sagarin/

Golfweek rankings at the beginning of the spring season: Florida,

Clemson, and Georgia. Nine of the top 25 teams in the country are

scheduled to play the event.

With Clemson having a strong fall season, including five top five

finishes headed by a second place finish at The Farm, in Dalton, GA,

the Tigers will be looking for their first win of the year. Clemson

played in the event for the first time in 2003 finishing in second

place behind Augusta State.

Sawgrass Country Club is a 6,985-yard Par 72 layout with water on 14

of the 18 holes. The course will require length off the tee as well

as accurate approach shots into well-bunkered greens. Sawgrass

gained its reputation as home of the PGA Tour's Tournament Players

Championship from 1977-'81.

Seniors, Matt Hendrix and Gregg Jones will lead the Tigers at this

year's Mercedes -Benz Collegiate Championship. Junior Jack Ferguson

will round off this trio of returning All Americans for the Tiger

Golf Team. Hendrix had a 70.00 stroke average for the fall, placing

third in the Carpet Capital Collegiate Championship in Dalton, GA.

Jones had a 71.18 stroke average for the fall with his best finish

being a fifth at the Fall Preview. Ferguson is coming off a solid

fall season with a 70.91 stroke average with his best showing at the

Carpet Capital Collegiate finishing fifth.

Junior Brent Dealahoussaye and sophomore Brian Duncan will complete

the five- man team this weekend. Delahoussaye had a 72.64 stroke

average for the fall with a top ten finish at the Preview. Duncan

had a 73.75 stroke average for the fall season.

Former Clemson All-American D.J. Trahan is the defending individual

champion at the event. Trahan is playing his first event on the

Nationwide Tour this weekend in Panama.
