Glover Moves into 9th Place on Ryder Cup Points |
Clemson, SC-Former Clemson All-American Lucas Glover is currently ninth among United States Golfers on the Ryder Cup Points Standing
list. The native of Greenville, SC is trying to become the first former Clemson golfer to be chosen for the United States Ryder Cup team. The event will be held at the K-Club in Dublin, Ireland in September, 2006. The top 10 players in the standings are chosen for the team and Captain Tom Lehman will make two other selections to complete the 12-man roster that will face the team from Europe. The points system has been compiled since the NEC Invitational of August 2004. Points are awarded for victories and top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour. Major victories have more points than non-majors. Glover has been outstanding when it comes to top 10 finishes over the last two seasons. So far this year he has five top 10s, third on the PGA tour trailing only Vijay Singh and Phil Mickelson. In addition to his ninth place ranking on the Ryder Cup standings, Glover is 19th on the latest PGA Tour money list with $1,241,754, and is 51sth in the latest World Rankings. On the PGA Tour, Glover is third in top 10 finishes (5), third in par five scoring average (4.53), third in total birdies (187), fifth in birdies per round (4.35), and 18th in scoring average (70.38). Glover enhanced his rankings this past weekend at the PGA Tour event in New Orleans when he fired a final round 63 to finish seventh in the overall standings, tied with former Clemson All-American Danny Ellis. Glover will be in the field at the Wachovia Bank Classic in Charlotte this weekend. Other former Tigers in that field include John Engler, Charles Warren and D.J. Trahan.
