Clemson, SC—Former Clemson All-American Lucas Glover is in fourth place in the latest United States team Ryder Cup Standings. Glover has 2,875.782 points through tournaments of this past weekend. The native of Greenville, SC is trying to become the first former Clemson to make the United States Ryder Cup team.

Glover has a 327-point lead over Hunter Mahan, the fifth-place player. Phil Mickelson leads the way with 4,901.249 Ryder Cup Points. Scoring will continue through events of August 15. The Ryder Cup will be held October 1-3 at Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales.

The top eight players in the points system on August 15 will make the United States team. The other four players on the team will be chosen by team captain Corey Pavin. Glover has an 810-point lead on eighth place player Stewart Cink.

Ryder Cup points take into account results over the last two years. In 2009 Glover earned many of his points by winning the United States Open, the first former Clemson player to win a PGA Tour Major. He also made a jump in the standings this year when he finished third at The Players Championship in Jacksonville. He is in the field for the Colonial in Fort Worth, TX this week.

No former Clemson player has played in the Ryder Cup. Glover is the only former Tiger to play in the President’s Cup. He has played on each of the last two United States championship teams, 2007 and 2009. Each time he has made the team he has donated $100,000 to the Clemson golf program.

Former Clemson All-American D.J. Trahan is 35th on the Ryder Cup points standing with 841.009
