Former Tiger Finishes Second at Steamtown Classic

Clemson, SC-Former Clemson All-American Jonathan Byrd finished second

at the Buy.com Steamtown Classic on Sunday. The 2000 Tiger graduate

shot a four-round total of 275, five-under par for the par 70

Glenmaura Country Club layout in Moosic, PA.

Byrd had a slight advantage over some of the other

competitors because he had played at Glenmaura in May of 2000 at the

NCAA East Regional with the Clemson team. He finished fourth at that

event, so he has a pair of top four finishes on the difficult course.

Byrd had rounds of 73-66-68-68 in finishing second to fellow

Buy.com rookie Jason Hill on Sunday. The second-place finish earned

Byrd $37,400, his third top three finish in six events on the Buy.com

tour this year.

The native of Columbia, SC is now second on the Buy.com in

earnings with $167,333. He has made every cut in the six events he

has played and has finished in the top 20 in five of the six. He won

the Charity Pro Am at the Cliffs in April with an 18-under-par score,

his first pro victory, a win that earned him $90,000.

Through the Steamtown Classic, Byrd leads the Buy.com Tour in

driving distance (309.7), is first in total driving, and ball

striking and is listed as the tour's top all-around player based on a

statistical formula. He is also second on tour in birdies per round

and sixth in stroke average with a 69.79 figure. He has played 24

rounds so far and 17 have been under-par, including 13 in the 60s.

For the year he is 36 under par.

Byrd is striving for a top 15 finish on the Buy.com money

list in 2001. If he does that he will automatically qualify for the
