Young Receives ACC Weekly Honor

GREENSBORO, NC -- On Monday ACC weekly awards were announced and Clemson's Kyle Young
received honors for his play against Missouri. Young was named ACC offensive lineman
of the week.


ACC FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK


OFFENSIVE BACK - Chris Weinke, QB, Florida State

A 6-5, 240-pound senior out of St. Paul, Minn., Weinke completed 25-of-38 passes for a career-high 443 yards and two touchdowns in Florida State's 26-21 victory at Georgia Tech Saturday night. In leading the Seminoles to their fourth come-from-behind victory in the last six games, Weinke became the school's all-time leading passer with 6,433 yards and improved his record to 23-1 as the starting quarterback.


OFFENSIVE LINEMAN - Kyle Young, OG, Clemson

Young, a 6-3, 270-pound junior out of Clemson, S.C., graded 80 percent for his 55 plays of action in Clemson's 62-9 win over Missouri. Young had seven knockdown blocks and made a key block on three of Clemson's six rushing touchdowns. Clemson had 481 yards of total offense, including 206 on the ground.


DEFENSIVE LINEMAN - Julius Peppers, DE, North Carolina

A 6-6, 270-pound defensive end, Peppers played a major role in North Carolina's 35-14 victory over Wake Forest Saturday night. The Bailey, N.C. sophomore had two quarterback sacks and returned a fumble 12 yards for the go-ahead and game-winning touchdown against the Deacons. The QB sacks were for 10 and 17 yards in losses.


DEFENSIVE BACK - Tommy Polley, WLB, Florida State

Polley, a 6-5, 233-pound senior linebacker from Baltimore, Md., was a dominant force in Florida State's 26-21 win over Georgia Tech Saturday night in Atlanta. In his first start since suffering a knee injury, Polley led the team with 12 tackles, including eight solo efforts and one tackle for a loss.


SPECIALIST - Bosley Allen, WR, North Carolina

Allen, a 6-1, 190-pound sophomore from Bradenton, Fla., returned seven punts for 153 yards in North Carolina's 35-14 victory over Wake Forest, including a 78-yarder for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Allen's scoring jaunt was Carolina's first punt return for a TD since 1996 and the ninth-longest in school history. In addition, Allen had two catches for 111 yards, including a 60-yard scoring pass with 6:31 left to play in the contest.


ROOKIE - Philip Rivers, QB, NC State

For the second straight week, NC State QB Philip Rivers has been tabbed as the ACC Rookie of the Week. The 6-5, 221-pounder from Athens, Ga., completed 31 of 52 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns in leading the Wolfpack from a 15-point second half deficit to a 41-38 victory over Big Ten foe Indiana. The five touchdown passes is an ACC single game record for a freshman while the 401 yards is the second highest by a freshman in league history.
