Whitehurst: 50-50 on Playing Against UVa |
CLEMSON -- Clemson quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, who injured his left ankle while being tackled out of bounds late against Maryland, said on Tuesday, it is "50-50" that he will be able to play on Saturday against Virginia.
“I want to play a lot,” said Whitehurst. “If there is any chance to play I am going to. I think this team needs my leadership on the offensive side.” Whitehurst is currently getting treatment for the ankle three times a day. The first one at 6:00 am in the morning. It was real sore (after the game),” said Whitehurst. “I was in a boot on Sunday. Now I am starting to walk on it a little bit. Hopefully I will be able to run some through the week. It is getting better from Sunday.” One positive for Whitehurst is the injury was to his left ankle and not his right ankle which is used more to set and throw. If Whitehurst is unable to play, red shirt freshman Chansi Stuckey will take over as quarterback for the Tiger offense. Stuckey has seen very limited action for the Tigers, playing just one series against Furman. “He (Stuckey) is young, but he is extremely confident,” said Whitehurst. “He can make plays with his arm or his feet.” Whitehurst was unable to practice on Monday. Stuckey got all the work with the first team while fellow redshirt freshman Will Proctor moved up to second team. No decision has been made on practice for Tuesday. “I’m just going to go out there and see how it feels,” said Whitehurst.
