Wednesday Spring Practice Report |
CLEMSON — With Clemson's penultimate spring workout out of the way, Tommy
Bowden hopes to put together an Orange-White game Saturday that will be beneficial to everyone — team, coaches and fans. Bowden, speaking after practice Wednesday, said the format for Saturday's game will be decided today. "We're going to meet (today) and see if we had any injuries, then distinguish the format," Bowden said. "We'll try to make it as entertaining as possible for the fans, but yet productive for us and not waste a 15th practice." Backup quarterback Willie Simmons drew praise from Bowden following Wednesday's practice. With incumbent starter Woody Dantzler being limited as he recovers from off-season ankle surgery, Bowden said Simmons has shown steady improvement as the spring has commenced. "He had a good scrimmage today and has made some progress," said Bowden. "We've put in some new things, and he's executing those new things pretty good." Dantzler will not play Saturday, a precaution against reinjuring his surgically-repaired ankle. He is expected to be at or near 100 percent come fall practice. Bowden also spoke highly of the secondary, including Charles Hafley and Ronnie Delusame, for their continued aggressiveness as practice commenced, and seems pleased with his team's overall progress. "We had a pretty good spring," he said. "We didn't have a whole bunch of major injuries, and I think we're better than we were 14 days ago. That's kind of what you like to accomplish. I'm anxious to get the freshmen in, the injured guys in and start in August." The Orange-White game kicks off at 3 p.m. Saturday in Death Valley.
