Watkins improving but still questionable for NC State |
Dabo Swinney after practice audio Clemson head football coach
Dabo SwinneyDabo Swinney “He will dress and we will watch him in pre-game and see how he is,” said Swinney. “He would definitely be playing this week, for sure, 100%, if we were playing the championship game. So we will see how he does and it may be a situation where we have him ready and see how we are doing. If we can hold him, hold him. If not, let him roll, but that’s really something we will have to decide Saturday.” Swinney said Watkins looked good in practice on Thursday. “His range of motion has been much better,” said Swinney. “He is moving around well. It’s just a matter of getting hit on it.” More notes from Dabo Swinney after practice: - Swinney said Spencer Benton will get another shot at kicking off this week, but he needs to be more consistent than he was against Wake Forest. - Swinney said the last few games the Tigers have been very charitable. “I want to be charitable by taking those toys and dropping them off at the gate, but that is where it needs to stop this weekend.” - Offensive lineman Kalon Davis was challenged this week in practice. “He’s done better this week, but he is still a long ways away. He’s a guy that has not had quite the focus that he needs to be a great player at this level. Very talented but like a lot of young players that sense of urgency to be great is not there every day.” - Swinney said NC State is playing really good defensively and the more he watches them on the tape the more impressed he is with NC State’s defense. - Clemson Injury Status Out: Joe Gore, DE, Knee; Tony Steward, LB, Knee; Philip Price, OT, Knee Questionable: Sammy Watkins, WR, Shoulder Probable: Darius Robinson, CB, hamstring
