Clemson pulled four players out of the state of Florida in 2011 – Cortez Davis, Mike Bellamy, Sammy Watkins and Tony Steward – and got Travis Blanks in the past recruiting cycle.

Wilkerson has nine offers – including Georgia and South Carolina – and the 5-11, 168-pounder is also receiving interest from Alabama, Florida, Miami, Arkansas and Vanderbilt.

He told TigerNet this week that getting an offer from the same school that Sammy Watkins attends was special.

“My coach told me that Coach [Marion] Hobby wanted me to call him, and he gave me his number,” Wilkerson said. “So I called him up, and he told me that he was offering me. They are a Top 25 school, and to get offers from schools like that means I am doing something right.

“I don’t know that much about them yet, but I am learning more every day. I know they play a lot of underclassmen – a lot of freshmen and sophomores – so that is a big plus. And of course they have Sammy Watkins. He is amazing. I watched him do his thing this year.”

Wilkerson said that Hobby has told him the Tigers would use his skills in a variety of ways - as a junior, he racked up 750 all-purpose yards with six touchdowns on offense while recording 30 tackles and an interception on defense.

“He told me they want me to play cornerback,” he said. “Coach Hobby told me he likes how physical I am at corner. He also said they want to take advantage of my punt return and kick return skills. That is something I am comfortable doing, and I wouldn’t mind coming in there and playing special teams right away.”

Wilkerson said he would be open to taking a visit before the spring or summer concludes.

“I am going to talk to my parents about scheduling a visit,” he said. “I would like to get up there and see the campus and talk to the coaches. Right now, I don’t really have a top three. I have an open mind, and I want to give all the schools a chance to know me. I plan on committing on August 31st, which is right before my season starts.”
