ACC FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK - Woodrow Dantzler, Clemson Clemson's Woodrow Dantzler became the first player in college football history to pass for 2000 yards and rush for 1000 in the same season in Clemson's 59-31 win over Duke. Playing in his final game in Death Valley, Dantzler completed 12-20 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns. The Orangeburg, S.C., senior rushed 19 times for 135 yards and another score. He set the standard on an 18-yard run on a fourth down play from the Duke 18 for the touchdown. He played just one more snap the last 20 minutes of the game. OFFENSIVE LINE - Kyle Young, Clemson Clemson center Kyle Young graded 95 percent for 55 snaps in Clemson's 59-31 victory over visiting Duke. The Clemson, S.C., product was credited with a team best 14 knockdown blocks, giving him 140 for the season, a Clemson single season record. Young, the ACC Tatum Award recipient, also had key blocks on two of Clemson's touchdown runs. DEFENSIVE LINE - Darnell Dockett, Florida State Florida State's Darnell Dockett turned in one of his best performances in the Seminoles' 28-17 win over Georgia Tech Saturday. The 6-4, 285-pound sophomore from Burtonsville, Md., tied a Florida State single game record with five tackles for loss against the Yellow Jackets. Dockett set a new school record for tackles for loss in a season (22) and now has 34 tackles for loss in his first two seasons, only two shy of breaking the school's career mark of 35.5 set by Reinard Wilson. DEFENSIVE BACK - John Duckett, Virginia Virginia outside linebacker John Duckett was in on a team-leading 13 tackles, nine of them unassisted, in Virginia's 20-14 victory over Penn State. The Lexington Park, Md., senior also had one quarterback sack for a loss of six yards and caused a fumble. The 6-1, 226-pound Duckett made a key play in the game with Penn State in a third and six situation at the Virginia eight-yard line midway through the third period and the Nittany Lions leading 14-6. Duckett caused a fumble while tackling Penn State quarterback Zack Mills at the eight. Virginia defensive back Art Thomas picked up the fumble and ran 92 yards for a touchdown. The point after touchdown cut Penn State's lead to 14-13 with 6:24 left in the third quarter. Duckett later sacked Mills in the third quarter for a six yard loss. ROOKIE - Roscoe Crosby, Clemson Clemson's Roscoe Crosby, a first-year freshman wide receiver, had six catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns in Clemson's 59-31 win over Duke. He had a 58-yard scoring catch and a 47-yard scoring reception, both from quarterback Woodrow Dantzler. The reception yardage total was a single game record for a Clemson freshman. SPECIALIST - Mike Abrams, Virginia Virginia punter Mike Abrams punted five times for a 41.8 per punt average in the Cavaliers' 20-14 win over Penn State Saturday. Abrams, a 6-2, 224-pound senior from Aiken, S.C., had two punts over 50 yards, including one that was downed on the Nittany Lions' one-yard line. ACC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Carlos Boozer, Duke Duke junior center Carlos Boozer was named ACC Player of the Week after averaging 22.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in wins over seventh-ranked Iowa 80-62 and Clemson 96-80. Had 22 points and 14 rebounds against the Hawkeyes and 23 points and 11 rebounds against the Tigers. The Juneau, Alaska, junior has four straight "double-doubles" and is averaging 17.3 points and 9.7 rebounds on the season. ROOKIE OF THE WEEK - Chey Christie, Clemson Clemson's Chey Christie was tabbed as the ACC Rookie of the Week after averaging 15.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists in the Tigers' three games last week. The Biloxi, Miss., freshman scored a career-high 21 points at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Sunday's 96-80 loss to top-ranked Duke. Earlier in the week, Christie was Clemson's second-leading scorer with 16 points in the win over Penn State in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Against Coastal Carolina on Friday evening, Christie tallied nine points with three assists and three steals .
