Tigers Pick Up More Football Commitments

CLEMSON, SC -- According to www.mickeyplyler.com Whiteville, NC defensive end Wendell Singletary has committed to play football for Clemson. Singletary had been trying to decide between Clemson and North Carolina for several weeks and on Thursday he decided to give his commitment to the Tigers.


The 6-7, 255-pound West Columbus senior played defensive tackle in high school and led his 0-11 team in sacks, tackles, and tackles for loss.


Singletary also plays forward on the basketball team averaging 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots per game.


Singletary who had cousin played in the NFL for the Eagles chose the Tigers over North Carolina, NC State, Virginia, Wake, and ECU. Clemson assistant Thielen Smith recruited Singletary for the Tigers.


Also committing to the Tigers on Thursday was Lamar wide receiver Derrick Higgins. The 6-2, 185-pound Lamar senior set a state championship game record with 20 catches. Higgins chose the Tigers over South Carolina and North Carolina.
Higgins will be placed in junior college by the Tigers.


Several outlets are also reporting that Clemson quarterback commitment Ryan Cubit has decommitted and now is a Rutgers commitment. Cubit's father is an assistant coach at Rutgers. Cubit will reportedly clear up the situation in a few days.
