Tigers Get First Look at Collins, Clark |
CLEMSON – Head coach Tommy Bowden welcomed two new Tigers along with the varsity in Friday morning’s practice. Wide receiver transfer Michael Collins (6-6, 215) of Commerce, GA transferred to Clemson from Tennessee where he redshirted in both football and basketball last season. He will have to sit out this year at Clemson, but he will be able to practice with both the football and basketball teams.
Collins signed with the Vols over the Tigers after earning PrepStar second-team All-America honors in high school. He played quarterback as a senior and rushed for 1,060 yards and 20 touchdowns. His career totals included 79 receptions for 2,339 yards and 27 touchdowns, 1,343 rushing yards and 24 TDs, along with 379 tackles and 13 interceptions as a safety.
Collins practiced briefly with the Tennessee men's basketball team before deciding to concentrate on football. As a high school senior he was named all-state and averaged 26.8 points per game.
The other newcomer was incoming freshman linebacker Donnell Clark (6-2, 245) who was cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse on Thursday afternoon.
Clark led Griffin High School with 99 tackles his senior season and also had two interceptions and four sacks.
