UVa’s Lundy on pace to set frosh reception mark

With 43 catches through his first eight games, Virginia tailback Wali Lundy is on pace to break the existing ACC mark for receptions by a freshman set by Maryland’s Frank Wycheck with 58 catches in 1990 ... if maintained, Lundy’s 4.7 per game reception average would give the Willingsboro, N.J., product 62 catches at the end of the season.

Friedgen, Amato, Bowden climb ACC coaching lists

- Maryland’s 45-12 win at Duke Saturday was the 16th career win for Terp head coach Ralph Friedgen ... the 16 wins ties Fridegen for fourth among coaches in their second year at a school in the ACC.

- NC State’s 38-6 win at Clemson last Thursday marked the 24th career win for Wolfpack head coach Chuck Amato ... Amato is sixth in wins among third-year coaching records in the ACC.

- Clemson’s Tommy Bowden is currently ninth with 26 wins among fourth-year head coaches in ACC history.

LAST YEAR: Shaun Hill threw two touchdown passes and Bruce Perry ran for 116 yards on 21 carries as the Terps posted a 23-7 win in Ralph Friedgen’s head coaching debut.

Duke - Two of Duke’s remaining three games are at home against opponents with a combined 11-13 mark ... the Blue Devils lead the ACC in time of possession (32:27) and are the second-least penalized team in the ACC (45.7) ... over the last four games, the Blue Devils are allowing only 92.5 yards rushing per contest ... in Saturday’s loss to Maryland, freshman Malcolm Ruff became the fifth different player to lead the team in rushing with 44 yards rushing on nine attempts ... Georgia Tech - A.J. Suggs passed for 220 yards as Tech snapped a two-game losing streak with a 23-15 win over Virginia ... Luke Manget has made an ACC-record 152 consecutive PATs and is seventh on the ACC career scoring list with 296 points ... over his last four games, Kerry Watkins has 29 receptions for 374 yards and four touchdowns ... Watkins is 18th on the ACC’s all-time receiving yardage list (2,355) ... Tech has out-scored its opponents 113-to-56 in the first quarter ... the Yellow Jackets four remaining opponents are a combined 24-10 (.706) - the 11th toughest remaining schedule in the country ... over the last two games, A.J. Suggs has completed 54-of-86 passes (.627) for 492 yards and one TD and has averaged 259.5 yards per game in total offense.

Maryland - Scott McBrien completed 16-of-21 passes for 264 yards as the Terps extended their winning streak to five in a row with a 45-12 victory over Duke ... the five wins have been by an average of 26.5 points per game ... in the Terps’ five-game winning streak, McBrien has completed 60-of-96 (.625) passes for 1,052 yards (17.5 yards per completion) and seven TDs while throwing only one interception ... Bruce Perry, last year’s ACC Offensive Player of the Year, made his first appearance of the year against the Blue Devils running for 19 yards on the game’s first play before injuring his shoulder ... Steve Suter set an ACC single season record with his third punt return for a touchdown with a 63-yard scoring return against Duke Saturday ... Suter leads the ACC in punt return average (13.8).

North Carolina - In his first career start, QB C.J. Stephens completed 17-of-27 passes for 221 yards Saturday against Wake Forest ... starting QB Darian Durant, the ACC’s total offense leader (285.9), fractured his right thumb against Virginia (Oct. 19) and will miss the remainder of the season ... WR Sam Aiken is tied for the lead in the ACC in receiving yards per game (90.6) and is second in receptions (5.0) ... Aiken is fifth among UNC career receiving yardage leaders (1,940) and seventh in career receptions (118) ... the Tar Heels lead the ACC in passing yardage per game (286.9) and are second to Maryland in the ACC in yards per pass completion (14.5) ... over his last four games, senior WR Chesley Borders has 18 receptions for 300 yards and five touchdowns.

McLendon leads the ACC and is sixth nationally in scoring (10.5) ... Virginia - Matt Schaub threw for 372 yards in Saturday’s loss at Georgia Tech and set school records for completions (41) and attempts (58) - the 41 completions also tied for the fifth-most in ACC history ... Virginia has outscored their opponents 192-to-76 in the second half this season ... Billy McMullen is ninth on the ACC career receiving yardage chart (2,673) and tied for ninth in career receptions (184) ... LB Darryl Blackstock tied the ACC QB sack record by freshmen with eight ... Virginia’s four remaining opponents are a combined 28-5 (.849) - the toughest remaining schedule in the country ... freshman TE Heath Miller leads the ACC in TD receptions with seven ... Wake Forest - James MacPherson threw for 177 yards and two TDs as Wake Forest posted its first shutout in ACC play since 1978 defeating North Carolina 31-0 ... DE Calvin Pace had three tackles for losses against UNC, including his seventh and eighth sacks of the year ... Pace leads the ACC with 17 TFLs and is tied for the league lead with eight QB sacks ... Tarence Williams ran for 101 yards against UNC to become the first Deacon this season to reach the 100-yard mark ... the Deacs lead the ACC and rank ninth nationally in rushing offense (249.3) ... led by Williams (447 yards), Wake has six players in the ACC top 20 rushing leaders ... true freshman Chris Barclay is seventh in the ACC in rushing (52.8) and has scored at least one touchdown in five of his last six games.
