Barber hopes to make it Clemson's campus sometime this summer

Cypress Springs (TX) High School 2018 athlete Taye Barber announced his top 12 list Sunday, and the Tigers have made the cut.

Barber says his recruitment is wide open and the Tigers are still firmly in the mix. His top 12 schools listed were Arizona, Clemson, Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Stanford, Tennessee, TCU, Utah, and West Virginia.

Why does Clemson continue to stand out for one of the Lone Star State’s best athletes?

“Clemson continues to be there because of the relationship I have with the coaches,” Barber told TigerNet. “I heard from Coach (Brent) Venables and Coach (Mickey Conn) often,”

Barber says that both Venables and Conn have the same message.

“They tell me to just keep working and doing my thing,” he said. “They tell me to just keep working hard, and that they want to get me on campus for a visit. I definitely have high interest in Clemson. Me and my mom plan on visiting. I love their drive to win the national championship and their family culture. They said I am a freak on the field and they love how versatile I am and my passion for the game.”

As of now, however, a visit is on hold while his mother works out her schedule.

“I want to get up there as soon as I can, but it’s hard to get around and see places right now because my mom goes out of town a lot for work,” he said. “I can’t wait to get up and visit.”

Barber has national offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Clemson, Fresno State, Houston, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, Rice, SMU, TCU, Tulsa, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Yale. His first offer was from Oklahoma State. Clemson offered him on May 16.

Where do the Tigers stand right now?

“In the top half,” Barber said. ““I am beginning to build a relationship with the coaches. They are both just fun, funny, cool and loving guys. They always keep it real and have this drive to win football games and championships. They push that family part, and that is something I am looking for in a program, so I like that.”

In 2016, he completed 46 passes out of 79 attempts for 844 yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. He also had 86 rushes for 385 yards with five rushing touchdowns and nine catches for 256 yards and a score. As a sophomore, he completed 187 passes out of 295 attempts for 2988 yards with 30 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He also had 140 carries for 832 yards and ten scores.
