CLEMSON FOOTBALL

Statement from ACC Commissioner on Brawl

by -

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- ACC Commissioner John Swofford issued the following statement today:

"The events that occurred during Saturday's football game between

South Carolina and Clemson have no place in college football. Those

events, which marred an otherwise quality game between two great

rivals, are inexcusable, and should not be acceptable to anyone who

cares about and loves the college game.

Discussions between this office and Clemson Director of Athletics

Terry Don Phillips, as well as with SEC Commissioner Mike Slive, have

taken place last night and this morning as part of a thorough review

of the unfortunate events that transpired. We will complete this

review as soon as possible."
