Stars come out as Swinney's second week of camp begins |
Week one of head coach
Dabo Swinney’s high school camp saw plenty of offers and even a couple of commits, but if history holds true the second session is when the stars come out.
The second session – and particularly Wednesday – is when most of the highly touted prospect will make their way through Clemson and onto the practice fields. While the first session was heavy (no pun intended) with offensive linemen, the second session will see most of Clemson’s 2019 commits and several highly regarded 2020 quarterbacks. Wide receiver commit Brannon Spector worked out last week, but Baton Rouge (LA) University Lab linebacker Bryton Constantin, Norfolk (VA) Maury cornerback Sheridan Jones, Homestead (FL) South Dade wide receiver Frank Ladson, Riverdale (GA) tight end Jaelyn Lay and Shelby (NC) Crest safety Lannden Zanders will all be on hand for some portion of camp. 3-star Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco linebacker Spencer Lytle is making his much-anticipated return to campus after an official visit to Wisconsin. Defensive coordinator Brent Venables is heading up Lytle’s recruitment and sentiment is that the summer decision will come down to the Badgers and the Tigers. While 5-star Oxford (AL) center Clay Webb is thought to surely stay in state with either Alabama or Auburn, he has attended the last two years of Swinney’s camp and will once again be on hand for the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions. While Clemson would have a lot of ground to gain, it can’t hurt that Webb has made the effort each of the last two years. Defensive end Ruke Orhorhoro out of River Rouge (MI) saw his recruitment take off during the spring evaluation, including an offer from Clemson. He recently named a top four of Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky and Clemson. With just three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster and Kelly Bryant moving on after the season, the next two recruiting cycles will be very important for quarterback coach Brandon Streeter’s group. He will have plenty of talent on hand to evaluate with 2020 prospects 4-star Luke Doty out of Myrtle Beach (SC), 4-star Max Johnson out of Watkinsville (GA) Oconee County and 5-star D.J. Uiagalelei, out of Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco. Finally, the defensive coaches will get their chance to see two of their top 2020 prospects in action. Marietta (GA) Hillgrove defensive end Myles Murphy already has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and several others, with Clemson squarely in the mix. 4-star Washington (DC) St. John College cornerback Luke Hill will also be on hand. Hill told TigerNet recently that he considers Clemson his top school, so this visit could go a long way in cementing the Tigers’ spot at the top. 2019 Commits Bryton Constantin, 4-star LB commit, Baton Rouge (LA) University Lab Sheridan Jones, 4-star CB commit, Norfolk (VA) Maury Frank Ladson, 4-star WR commit, Homestead (FL) South Dade Jaelyn Lay, 4-star TE commit, Riverdale (GA) Lannden Zanders, 3-star S commit, Shelby (NC) Crest 2019 Prospects John Gelotte, 2019 OL, Roebuck (SC) Dorman Dal’Mont Gourdine, 3-star 2019 DT, North Charleston (SC) Garrett Academy Spencer Lytle, 3-star 2019 LB, Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco Lloyd Murray, 3-star 2019 DT, Wichita Falls (TX) Hirschi Ruke Orhorhoro, 3-star 2019 DE, River Rouge (MI) Cam Smith, 2019 CB, Blythewood (SC) Westwood Ray Thornton, 2019 S, Phenix City (AL) Clay Webb, 5-star 2019 OL, Oxford (AL) 2020 Prospects Sergio Allen, 4-star 2020 LB, Fort Valley (GA) Peach County Kedrick Bingley-Jones, 2020 DE, Charlotte (NC) Luke Doty, 4-star 2020 QB, Myrtle Beach (SC) Luke Hill, 4-star 2020 CB, Washington (DC) St. John College Jalin Hyatt, 2020 WR, Irmo (SC) Dutch Fork Max Johnson, 2020 4-star QB, Watkinsville (GA) Oconee County Myles Murphy, 4-star 2020 DE, Marietta (GA) Hillgrove Jalen Rivers, 4-star 2020 OL, Orange Park (FL) Oakleaf Chase Sweigart, 2020 OL, Chapin (SC) D.J.
