Spiller's Time In 60m Saturday Best In World This Year

by -

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - C.J. Spiller clocked a world-best 6.58 and won the 60m

dash title at the Carolina Classic to pace the men?s track & field team

Saturday.

Spiller?s time ranks just ahead of the 6.59 run by professional

sprinter Leonard Scott, also on Saturday. It was a personal best for the

sophomore two-sport star.

Spiller ran a 6.69 in the prelims, and then ran away from the field in the

final with his time of 6.58. The time ranks fourth in school history in

the 60m dash, quite an accomplishment considering Clemson?s decorated

history of sprinters. His time also ranks as a facility record at the

Eddie Smith Field House.

Travis Padgett finished second in the 200m dash after clocking a

season-best 21.91 in the event. Trenton Guy placed fourth (22.00), while

Corey Brown (22.40) was ninth overall. Brown teamed with Cowin Mills,

Andrew Porter, and Travis Swaggard in finishing third in the 4x400m relay

(3:17.85).

Alex Padgett finished ninth in the invitational shot put with a mark of

51?9.25?, while Stephen White placed eighth (46?2?) in the second section

of the event. Scott Pauga (6?6?) was 10th in the high jump.

Clemson will return to action next weekend to take part in the Virginia

Tech Elite Meet in Blacksburg, VA.
