’s football career at West Florence High School is complete, but he still has one more goal to accomplish before graduating in the spring.

Play well in the Shrine Bowl.

Spence has won several awards, including the 11th Annual Chris Sailer National Spring Event in Las Vegas, and he was named South Carolina’s Class AAAA specialist of the year; however he is looking forward to playing in the Shrine Bowl.

The 77th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas will be played December 21st at Gibbs Stadium on the campus of Wofford College. The game will kickoff at 1 p.m., and will feature a roster all stars from North Carolina battle all stars from South Carolina.

Spence said playing for the Sandlappers is a special honor.

“It’s pretty awesome,” Spence told TigerNet recently about his selection to the game. “My coach told me that he has been trying to tell the Shrine Bowl coaches about me for a while. He said that once they saw my film that they should invite me to the Shrine Bowl, especially with my commitment to Clemson and everything. It’s pretty exciting.”

is one of the reasons why he can’t wait to get on Clemson’s campus.

“They check up on me every week,” Spence said. “Coach Pearman calls me and I talk to him before the game. They just want me stay focused and finish high school well. They are really excited about getting me to Clemson.”

Spence attended every Clemson home game, and he never passed up an opportunity to strengthen the relationship with his future coach.

“I really like him. We are pretty friendly,” Spence said. “We are always checking in on each other and I always talk to him after the games. He’s a really cool and nice dude.”

He also never passes up the chance to pick the brain of Clemson’s leading scorer and fellow kicker – Chandler Catanzaro.

“I got to talk to him before some of the games,” Spence said. “He said I was really going to love it at Clemson and that he’s excited to have me in the program. I had some small talk with him in the locker room. He’s very cool to talk to.”

As a senior, Spence connected on 14-of-17 field goal attempts with a long of 47-yards and made 36-of-37 extra point attempts.

As a junior, Spence made 11-of-13 field goal attempts with a long of 43 yards and made 50-of-54 extra point attempts. He also averaged 39.3 yards per punt.
