turned down an offer for the same position at the University of Tennessee are incorrect, according to a source close to Steele that spoke on the condition of confidentiality. Reports have been circulating since late last week that Steele and Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley were in talks that would take Steele – who played linebacker at Tennessee – back to Knoxville. Steele turned down the same position two years ago. It was reported Tuesday afternoon, however, that Steele had turned down Dooley in order to remain at Clemson, but the source said that was not the case. The source said that Steele and Dooley had gone as far as to talk contractual terms, but an offer was never made by Dooley, and Steele has told those around him that his plans are to remain at Clemson. Steele has three years remaining on his contract with Clemson, a contract that does not include a buyout.
