View Full Profile knows all about the Clemson tradition of great defensive ends, and it’s one of the reasons that the standout sophomore defensive end out of McDonough (Eagles’ Landing) Ga., is giving heavy consideration to becoming a Tiger.

View Full Profile , and was on the Clemson campus a week ago with the junior when he took an official visit. Williams said the visit was a good opportunity to get to know the Clemson program a little better.

“Isaac and I play the same position, so we spend a lot of time together,” Williams told TigerNet this week. “This was a good chance for me to get to Clemson and see more of the campus. I really like Marion Hobby, who coaches the defensive ends. He is great. He is the type of coach that will push you and he is the type of coach I am used to and will work well with. At Clemson, if I decide to go there, I will fit perfectly into the system.”

Williams is a shade under 6-5 and weighs just under 245 pounds as he nears the end of his sophomore year, so he figures to continue to add muscle and weight. As a result, he said he paid special attention to the Clemson weight room and how that room has figured into the careers of so many great Clemson defensive ends.

“I love their weight room because I am a big weight lifter guy,” he said. “It really seems like they get results from their defensive ends because I follow them. It seems like they have all been monsters – Andre Branch, Da’Quan Bowers, Ricky Sapp and even Gaines Adams. Those are the kinds of guys I look up to, and I like schools that have good defensive ends.”

He said he hopes to add even more size and speed this off-season.

“This past season, I wasn’t that big but I was strong,” he said. “I had the speed and strength to make plays, but I want to get better. I look up to guys like Isaac – and really all great defensive ends – and try and mimic what they do and get better at what I do.”

He also has someone to look up to in big brother Anthony Williams, a redshirt freshman defensive end for Georgia Tech. However, he says the fact that his older sibling is at Tech doesn’t necessarily give the Jackets the inside edge

“It really doesn’t matter to me whether I play with him or against him,” Williams said. “We have always competed against each other growing up, and I actually wouldn’t mind playing against him. I love the competition.”

Williams currently boasts three offers – Boston College, Clemson and Missouri. The Eagles were the first to offer, but Clemson was quick to offer last spring.

“Clemson offered late spring last year,” he said. “That was my second offer. I was offered around the time Isaac was offered, and I was speechless. To be a freshman and to have the opportunity to play at the next level at those kinds of schools is overwhelming. I just have to keep working hard so the opportunities will keep coming my way. “
