Simmons Now #2 Quarterback

by - Correspondent -

CLEMSON – Clemson offensive coordinator Rich Rodriguez said that Willie Simmons is now the No. 2 quarterback behind Woody Dantzler after Brandon Streeter’s injury.

Dantzler and Simmons have been sharing time in practice behind Streeter. Both will now wee more work, according to Rodriguez.

“During the week the first group will go four plays and the second group will go three,” he said. “On Thursday, the first group will get 75 percent of the reps and the second group will get 25 percent. We tried to limit what we did with Woody today to what he did on Thursday.

Clemson’s coaching staff would like to redshirt Simmons. Rodriguez said he would not have hesitated to put Simmons in if Woody had not been able to run the offense.
“I told Willie before the game that he’s two plays away from going into the game,” said Rodriguez. “Now he’s one play away.”
