Ronnie Thomas will follow Willie Simmons to Florida A&M.

CLEMSON – Wide receiver Ronnie Thomas and safety Charles Harper will join fellow Shanks High School (Quincy, FL) teammate Willie Simmons and leave the Clemson football program early.

Thomas, a Super Prep All-America receiver who caught 130 passes for 2850 yards and 37 touchdowns in his high school career, will follow Simmons to Florida A&M. He caught just two passes while at Clemson.

Harper, who graduated in May but has a year of eligibility left, informed the coaching staff he will leave the program. Harper was one of the strongest player on the team with a bench press of 435 pounds at 5-10 and 180 pounds. However, he never translated that strength to performance on the field. He played just two games on special teams the last two seasons.

The Tigers are currently 9 scholarships under the 85 allowed by NCAA rules. Four of those will be given to walkon players - offensive lineman Tommy Sharpe, wide receiver Tony Elliot, snapper Geoff Risby, and defensive back Toure Francis.

Recent Losses to the Tigers:

- QB Willie Simmons transfers to Florida A&M.

- WR Roscoe Crosby decides to play baseball fulltime

- OL Jermyn Chester decides to end career after knee injury.

- DB Brian Staley, a JUCO All-American corner signee, came up short academically and will have to wait one year to enroll.
