Quentez Ruffin

Offensive Lineman

Leon High (Tallahassee)

6’6”, 305 pounds

A monster in a young man’s body, Quentez Ruffin had a standout career as an offensive lineman at Tallahassee’s Leon High School. He had offers from Florida, Texas, N.C. State, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, South Carolina and LSU, but chose to continue his career at Clemson.

Bench pressing over 400 pounds and squatting 600 pounds, Ruffin feels he is plenty strong enough to play at the next level. With that in mind, he has spent the summer trying to strengthen himself in other ways.

“I took a lot emphasis of strength training because I already feel like I am strong enough,” Ruffin said.
“I have been working on speed training and conditioning, and have got my 40 time down to 4.83.”

Ruffin, who has qualified academically, reported to campus on July 5.

“I wanted to get to Clemson early for a lot of reasons,” Ruffin said. “I wanted to get a jump on college life and I want to start learning the plays. I wanted to get my feet wet.”

Although red-shirting is always a possibility, it isn’t something that Ruffin is preparing himself for.

“Who can predict what the future is going to bring,” Ruffin said. “But I feel that the only thing that will keep me off the field is me not learning plays. I want to show people what I have, and hopefully that will get me on the field.”

Ruffin’s position coach, Brad Scott, has kept in contact with him.

“Coach Scott has told me to be in good condition, to work hard, and to stay focused and hungry,” Ruffin said. “All freshmen will start out on the two-deep roster, and what happens from there is up to them.”
