Rodriquez appears to be the leading candidate for the Texas Tech head coaching position.
Clemson offensive coordinator Rich Rodriguez was back in his office
Wednesday afternoon after a couple of days in Texas where he met with
officials from Texas Tech about its head coaching vacancy.
Rodriguez said he did not have any other trips planned this week. He has
also been contacted by Tulsa.
"Nothing else planned. I'm spending the Thanksgiving holiday with my
family," said Rodriguez.
Where he'll spend next season is still up in the air. Texas Tech has to keep
the position open until next week and Rodriguez said he's in no hurry to
make a decision.
"They probably won't make a decision for a week to ten days," he said.
"They've got some other folks to talk to."
Rodriguez met with Clemson coach Tommy Bowden after arriving back in
Clemson. They compared notes on building projects as they left Bowden's
office. He then went back to his office where his phone was ringing off the
"You've got to go with what you think is the best opportunity, but I'm not
going to go with any thing that isn't right," he said. "I've got a great
job. I'm in a situation where I don't have to worry about it. I've got a
great job. There's a lot of good coaches out there and they're qualified to
be a head coach."
