Report: Bowden Interviews For Razorbacks' Vacancy |
CLEMSON - Clemson fans still enjoying Sunday's news of the team's berth in the Chick-Fil-A bowl had their good mood interrupted on Monday. According to multiple sources, including a website run by the Arkansas Democrat and the Northwest Arkansas Times, Tigers' head coach Tommy Bowden is one of three people to interview for the vacant job at the University of Arkansas. WholeHogSports.com reported Monday afternoon that Bowden had already interviewed for the position left open by Houston Nutt's departure to Ole Miss last week. Others said to have been interviewed are Tulsa offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and Michigan defensive coordinator Ron English. The website said the three met with incoming Arkansas athletics director Jeff Long, who is taking over in Jan. for the retiring Frank Broyles. Attempts to reach Bowden and Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips have been unsuccessful. Auburn head coach Tommy Tubberville, whose team will face Clemson in the Dec. 31 bowl game, has also been linked to the job but has denied any interest. Monday, during the teleconference for the bowl invitation, Bowden said he wanted to stay at Clemson "as long as they'll have me." He and Phillips met early last week to lay the groundwork for a contract extension, but nothing has been signed as of yet. Bowden has three years remaining on his current contract with a buyout that, at the moment, sits at $2.5 million. WholeHogSports.com promised more information in Tuesday's edition of the Northwest Arkansas Times. Check back for more details as they become available.
