CLEMSON RECRUITING

Recruiting: Tigers Add Tenth Commitment for 2004

by -

Shaun Branscome Defensive tackle Pulaski County High School (Dublin, VA) 6'6", 255 lbs. Although the Pulaski County Cougars finished the season with a 6-4 record, Shaun Branscome put together an amazing year. Along with his 77 tackles, he also blocked five field goals and tallied over ten sacks. Even more impressive than his stats, however, is his speed. Despite standing at an impressive 6'6" and 255 lbs., Branscome runs the 40 in 4.7 seconds. "I was able to improve my speed by doing things over the summer," Branscome said. "I ran ten 100-yard sprints every day, and did a lot of squats and box jumping." Branscome's stats and skill made him a hot commodity to Division I schools, as Clemson, Virginia Tech, Virginia, North Carolina, and Colorado State were just a few of the schools hoping for his services. When it came time for his choice, Branscome decided on Clemson. "The facilities and the coaches were the main players in my decision," Branscome said. "And when Coach Bowden got his contract extension, that played a very big part." Branscome will make an official visit to North Carolina on January 23 and is working on setting up a date with Colorado State, but said it would take a lot to make him change his mind and break his verbal commitment with the Tigers. "There might be a chance I would change my mind, but I seriously doubt it," Branscome said. "The main reason I am visiting those other two schools is to let myself know that I made the right choice. I just want to put my mind at ease." Coach John Lovett and Coach Thielen Smith have both been recruiting Branscome for the Tigers.
