Recruiting: Q & A with Cory Lambert |
Cory Lambert Offensive Tackle Greenville HS (Greenville, SC) 6-7, 290, 5.0 Q: Did you go to any camps this past summer? A: I went to Alabama camp, for both offensive and defensive lines, and then I went to Georgia camp just for a select few people from my team. Q: What is your current height and weight? A: I'm 6'7' and I weigh 290. I usually get about 320 during the summer lifting weights, and then usually during football season I go down to about 304, but after this season I'm 290. Q: What are your bench press, squat, and clean max outs? A: Bench I did 405, squat I did 450, and power clean 260. Q: What schools are recruiting you the hardest? Do you have any favorites? A: The top five, I was going to say USC, but since they got the new coaches I'm not really interested in them now. The ones I'm truly interested in now are Clemson, Tennessee, and Florida State. But pretty much I'm leaning close to Clemson. Q: What would you say is your biggest strength? A: Speed. Everyone looks at me and thinks I'm slow, but I suprise them and show them how fast I am. I run a 5.0 flat in the forty. Q: What is your perception of Clemson's fan base, and how has that affected your decision-making? A: It's just great. It's definitely a new level for me. You've got people at Sirrine Stadium, and its pretty packed, but once you get into college, everybody is there, you hear people talking about Clemson this, Clemson that, you can't wait. Q: Describe how you think you'll feel when you first run down the hill. A: Nervous, but once I get to the bottom, I'll feel like I'm at home. Q: What current Clemson players and coaches do you know? A: I know Will Henry. He used to come down this summer and sometimes help me on my steps. And I know Coach Blackwell, and Coach West. Q:Who has been the biggest influence in your life? A: My Mom. She's the only parent. She's definitely raised me and made sure I go in the right direction. Q: How big of a factor has Clemson's academic reputation been when considering what school you would like to attend? A: To me it should be a factor, and it is, and but what I'm actually looking at is football. Q:What do you look for in a college? A: Nice social life. Football isn't year-round. After the season is over, what am I going to do? Am I going to hang out with friends, go to parties, or just sit around in my dorm room? Q: What are your expectations going into major college football? A: Hopefully to do good, I'm going to try my hardest, make sure I'm not the weakest link. Q: How does Clemson's style of play affect your decision-making? A: Well, the good thing about Clemson is they run the same offense as Greenville. So, the only thing I have to do there is go in and learn the plays and the different names, I'll be good. I'd like to try to start my Freshman year. Q: What are your favorite football teams? A: Denver Broncos for pro, Clemson for college. Q: What do you want to study in college and why? A: Right now I'd say History. I noticed that I've always gotten A's and B's in history, so I thought why not do history? Q: How have your academics been in high school? A: Good. You know, they've been good enough. Right now, I'm not going to say struggling, but I need to raise one of my class grades up a little which I definitely will. Q: Has Noah Whiteside affected your at all in your decision-making? A: He's not really pushed me very hard, because he wants me to go where I want to go. He does want me to go to USC but he won't pressure me because he was in the same place last year. Q: Do you consider yourself a better pass or run blocker? A: I kind of have to say even, really. If i were to excel in one I'd say run blocking. Q: What are you goals for your Freshman year in physical conditioning? A: I definitely want to get faster. Hopefully I could get down to a 4.9 or 4.8 forty. I just want to keep my strength. I'm happy where I am, but one thing I want to do before I graduate is break the bench record they have there, and hopefully I can beat that before I leave Clemson. Q: Do you have a pet peeve? A: I hate when people tailgate me when I'm driving. That gets me mad, makes me want to slam on the breaks. Q: You're a big kid. Whats your favorite food? A: Pizza. Definitely. Q: Have you ever considered playing basketball with your height? A: I get that all the time. I'm just not interested in it. I'm into more physical sports. Q: How do you take advantage of your size against smaller, quicker players? A: Well for one I'm just so big its hard to get around me, but also they expect me to be big and slow, but I suprise them with how quick I am. Q:With Clemson losing their starting tackles, young players will have the opportunity to compete for immediate playing time. Does this come into play when considering Clemson? A: Oh definitely. Thats one of the big reasons I'll probably go to Clemson. I have a chance to start or if anything not be redshirted, and thats one of my goals. Q: As a teenager, you're probably not done growing. Are you projected to finish growing at a certain height? A: The doctors told me that I'm supposed to be 7'2' by the time I'm 20 years old.
