Recruiting: Cory Groover Sticking with the Tigers

by -

Cory Groover Defensive tackle Southwest Mississippi Junior College 6'2", 289 lbs. When Cory Groover was a football and track standout out at South Carolina's Hannah-Pamplico High School, Clemson University made an offer to him to continue his football career. Although Groover spent the past two season at Southwest Mississippi Junior College, he said that Clemson has stuck by him. On January 12, 2004, Groover will thank the school by enrolling, making him eligible for next season. "It's close to home, and they were the first school to offer when I was in high school," Groover said. "They have stuck by me, and I am going to stick by them." Southwest Mississippi finished the season with a 5-4 record, but Groover spent the entire season making his presence known. He had 60 solo tackles, nine sacks, an interception, two forced fumbles, and scored a touchdown. Although his presence could bolster Clemson's defense, Groover isn't sure the Tigers even need him. "Watching them play against Florida State and South Carolina, I think they already have everything they need," Groover said. "I will just give them another good player." Groover made his official visit to Clemson during the FSU game. Clemson assistant Thielen Smith is recruiting Groover for the Tigers.
