doesn’t like being the center of attention, but he allowed himself to be front-and-center at noon on Friday when he gave his verbal commitment to Clemson in a ceremony at his school.

The 4-star offensive lineman from Pinecrest (NC) chose the Tigers over Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Wake Forest. He becomes the third commitment for Clemson's 2016 class which also includes tight end J.C Chalk and quarterback Zerrick Cooper Zerrick Cooper

Pollard told TigerNet that being able to make his college choice while surrounded by teammates and family was “amazing” while adding that he has known for a little over a week that Clemson was his choice.

“It was amazing. It was also a little overwhelming because I hate being in the spotlight, but it was just a blessing being able to do that with my whole team and in front of my family. It was just overall an amazing experience,” Pollard said. “I've known for about a week-and-a-half now. I have been praying on it for a while. I have been asking God to give me signs and He did. He spoke wonders so I have known for a little over a week now.”

Clemson’s coaches found out Thursday night.

“They have known since last night. I called them with just my family and told them and they were excited and told me that they can't wait for me to get down there next year,” Pollard said. “I called Coach (Robbie) Caldwell and he put me on speakerphone with Coach (Dabo) Swinney, Coach (Tony) Elliott and Coach (Jeff) Scott.”

He had national offers from Clemson, Duke, East Carolina, Miami, North Carolina, N.C. State, Penn State, Rutgers, South Carolina, Virginia, Wake Forest, and others. He also had heavy interest from California, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Stanford before he shut down his recruiting.

Pollard visited Clemson with his father and brother during September, and then brought his mother and sister for a visit in early November. That last visit helped Clemson seal the commitment.

“Clemson is 4 1/2 hours away, so they did something right for my parents to let me come out of state. They definitely showed out,” Pollard said. “Clemson is very family-oriented and I love how close and together they are. The atmosphere is another reason, and the game day atmosphere is hard to match. And I love the education. They are a Top 25 public school, so they care a lot about education at Clemson. I wanted to major in economics and minor in business, so it is a good fit.”

Pollard said the Blue Devils came in a close second.

“Duke definitely was the second one. Then probably N.C. State, Wake Forest and UNC,” he said. “The job Coach Cutcliffe has done is amazing, and how close they are is amazing.”

. Pollard gives the Tigers a good start on the 2016 class, and says Clemson fans will see a hard-working player.

“I am a workaholic. A tenacious player who isn't afraid to work and just get after it.”
