Police release photos and video of truck suspected in rock vandalism |
CLEMSON – The Clemson University police released video and still images Thursday afternoon of what looks like an older model Ford pickup truck that is suspected to be connected to the vandalism of Howard’s Rock.
Late last week, it was learned that vandals had taken a chunk out of the iconic rock that Clemson players and coaches rub prior to running down the hill during the football team's entrance into Memorial Stadium. Clemson University Chief of Police Johnson Link said at that time that it appeared there were no videos available of the perpetrators, but further investigation revealed otherwise. “We went back and looked at the video and discovered this one,” Link told TigerNet Thursday. “The truck actually arrived about 11:30 and it was there for 13 minutes. We discovered three people getting out and getting back in the truck.” The police were then able to cross-reference cameras that are used on College Avenue. “We have some cameras on College Avenue, and we saw the truck on those cameras prior to 11:30 and then at 11:43 after they left,” Link said. Police announced there is a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. The Clemson University Athletic Department raised the reward money from private funds. “We are putting that out there, and if people have seen that type of truck we ask them to contact us,” Link said. “We wanted to generate those photos and video, and if people see that truck then they need to call us and make us aware of it.” If you have information regarding the case, call CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
