Peake named to 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl

Clemson commitment and Dorman wide receiver Charone Peake was invited to play in the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Tuesday at a ceremony held at Dorman High School. Peake will be playing on the East team and was presented his All-American jersey by Sergeant First Class Victor Turnipseed.

The selection committee said that Peake possesses the ideal height and body control to allow him to make extraordinary catches and his long, smooth strides glide past defensive backs, making him a true deep threat.

This season Peake has caught 24 passes for 399 yards and two touchdowns but has been hampered by an ankle injury. This is the second year in a row that Clemson has had a wide receiver commitment play in the game. Martavis Bryant from T.L. Hanna High School played in the 2010 game. Current Clemson quarterback Tahj Boyd was named the most valuable player for the East team in 2009.

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is the premier high school football game in the country and will be played on Saturday, January 8th, 2011, in the Alamodome, live on NBC. The game features the nation’s top 90 high school players in an East versus West competition, and has helped launch the careers of Adrian Peterson, Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, Michael Oher (from the movie “The Blind Side”), and many other college and NFL stars since its inception in 2001. The game also crowns the U.S. Army Player of the Year during Bowl Week in San Antonio.
