Peach Bowl to have decision early this week

by -

Gary Stokan, president of the Peach Bowl, told the Greenville News that the selection committee will have an announcement between Clemson or Virginia either after a meeting on Monday night or on Tuesday.

Both Clemson (6-5) and Virginia (7-4) tied with Georgia Tech (8-3) for second place in the ACC. Stokan said two factors that could be on the Tigers' side are the fact Clemson beat Virginia this year and Virginia played in the Peach Bowl last year.

If the Tigers are not selected for their fourth Peach Bowl this decade, they will play in the Micron/PC Bowl on December 30 in Fort Lauderdale, FL against Illinois.

Stokan also told the Greenville News that he would expect Clemson to bring at least 22,000 to 25,000 people perhaps more because of the excitement new head coach Tommy Bowden has put in the program. Virginia brought 21,000 to the Peach Bowl last year.

The SEC teams being considered for the other slot in the Peach Bowl are Mississippi St (9-2), Mississippi (7-4), Georgia (7-4), Kentucky (6-5), and Arkansas (7-4). The exact SEC team will not be known until after the SEC championship game on December 5.
