Oglesby refining his game, hopes to win a state championship

View Full Profile ’s camp a few weeks ago, Clemson commit Jae’lon Oglesby worked out with the wide receivers, and two days later showed off his improved skillset during the Byrnes 7-on-7 competition.

The 2014 Daniel High School standout is already known for his explosiveness out of the backfield, but in order to complete his game he wanted to compete with some of the top receivers from around the country.

“I loved the camp,” Oglesby told TigerNet after the Byrnes competition. “I didn’t really do many running back drills. I stuck mainly to receiver coaching because to me that’s better competition. Everything was pretty fun, especially doing the pass skelly.”

Not working out exclusively with running backs also gave Oglesby the opportunity to strengthen his relationship with the other members of Clemson’s offensive staff.

“I love all of the Clemson coaches- Coach Elliot, Coach Morris, Coach Pearman,” Oglesby said. “A lot of them have kids that play rec ball so I’m around their families a lot. I know a lot of them.”

Participating in the camp also gave Oglesby the opportunity to spend time with fellow running back commit and rival, C.J. Fuller C.J. Fuller

“That’s my buddy. We’re like family almost,” he said. “He’s a cool dude. We talk every now and then. He’s a really tall and big back. He’ll break one every now and then. He’s got some elusiveness to him too. He’s a good back.”

The Daniel Lions were knocked out of the Byrnes 7-on-7 competition in the quarterfinals after failing to convert an extra point with two seconds remaining.

However, with Oglesby’s senior season on the horizon, he has two goals in mind.

“I just want to get a state championship ring,” he said. “And, I need to focus more on academics. I need to work on my GPA and get it up higher.”

As a junior, Oglesby carried the ball 293 times for 2,472 yards and 33 touchdowns.

During his sophomore season, he rushed for 1,750 yards and 28 touchdowns.
