Nick Watkins Commits to the Tigers (Updated)
CLEMSON -- Linebacker Nick Watkins (6-2, 215) from New Orleans, LA has committed to the Tigers. He selected the Tigers over Tulane, Ole Miss and Indiana.
Watkins visited Clemson on January 10th and was scheduled to visit Ole Miss and Indiana but will canceled those.
"When I got there (Clemson) the whole thing was nice," said Watkins. "I’m not used to seeing mountains. The campus and the visit was nice. The players treated me real well. Everything was just nice."
Besides Clemson, Watkins had offers from Auburn, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, La Tech, Tulane, La-Monroe, and Indiana.
"It wasn’t that tough of a choice," said Watkins. "Out of the rest of the schools I was looking at, I looked at what they had to offer and what Clemson had to offer and they were the top."
Watkins set a school record with 160 tackles last season. He also had 8 sacks and 5 interceptions.
"Watkins is a linebacker that can play inside or outside," said recruiting analyst Mickey Plyler. "He plays well in space and drops into coverage well. In high school he rushed the quarterback very well. He is a big body that should add weight in college. Clemson offered him early, and this is a position of need for their class."
Watkins benches 350 pounds, power cleans 300 pound, and squats 400 pounds. Clemson assistant Burton Burns recruited Watkins for the Tigers.
