The Tigers have received their ninth verbal commitment for this year’s class in defensive lineman Elemore Gabriel from Brooklyn, New York.

Gabriel has played in just one game for Christ the King High School (3-2) because

of an injured foot, but recorded 10 tackles and two forced fumbles in the first three quarters of the contest. He is expected to return this week. Last season he played linebacker for Christ the King and had 126 tackles and 6 sacks.

“He is a big athletic kid with a frame to put on more weight,” said high school coach Kevin Kelly. “He plays basketball for us as well, and our basketball program is one of the best in the country. He is just a real hard working kid with great athletic ability.”

Kelly said Gabriel will just concentrate on football for the Tigers.

"He really liked the interest Clemson had in him and is excited about going down there,

" Kelly said. "He really wanted to get out of New York."

Gabriel is being recruited by Clemson, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Syracuse, Maine, Hofstra, and Deleware. He received an offer from and made a verbal commitment to Clemson two weeks ago.

"From what I know about Clemson, Rod Gardner played there, they

have a good defense, and their offense isn't bad either," Gabriel said.

"Nothing has changed my mind about coming to Clemson."

Gabriel will visit Clemson in January, and is also looking to set up visits with Maryland and Pittsburgh. Clemson assistant John Lovett recruited Gabriel for the Tigers.
