The latest news on Tulsa offensive coordinator Chad Morris shows that Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, should he decide to offer the job to Morris, might have a fight on his hands.

TigerNet spoke with a source close to the Oklahoma St. football program Wednesday evening, and they indicated that Morris will interview with Oklahoma St. head coach Mike Gundy this week. Dana Holgorsen was the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys for just one season before recently leaving for West Virginia.

Morris would interest Gundy for two reasons – he runs a similar offense to what Gundy favors, and with the team facing having a third offensive coordinator in three seasons, Gundy wants someone who would commit to more than one season. The source at Oklahoma St. indicated that Morris, who hails from Texas, is interested in staying in that part of the country.

The second reason is that a large portion of the Cowboy athletic program is funded by the deep pockets of T. Boone Pickens, and we were told that money would not be an object.

Working in Clemson’s favor at this point is the fact that Gundy may not make a decision until he knows the status of quarterback Brandon Weeden and wide receiver Justin Blackmon.

Gundy and any potential hire will want to know whether Weeden and Blackmon are staying in school or entering the 2011 NFL draft. The Weeden and Blackmon decisions will be announced on or before Jan. 15. If Weeden decides to stay in school, Gundy won't want to install an entirely new offense in the spring, but continue the offense put in place by Holgorsen.

Also, our source said that Oklahoma St. originally had Morris in the “Top Five, but we were told that he needs to move up into the Top Three or better.”

Another rumored candidate for the Oklahoma St. job is former Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach.
