Mickey Plyler's Blog for April 7th |
864-834-6060 Spring game weekend is here so let's cross our fingers about the weather. Please have a safe trip over the weekend. If you can't make it in town, you can listen to the spring game and the baseball game at www.wccpfm.com or 104.9 FM. I will have more recruiting as a part of the blog starting Monday. On Fridays during the off-season, I will answer e-mail in the blog. To send questions, you can e-mail them to mickey.plyler@tigernet.com. Here are a few e-mails from the week: Hey Mickey, Long time listener to your show and I thoroughly enjoy both your sense of humor and your show content. I am a rabid fan of CU football and just wanted your most realistic outlook on the Tigers chances of an ACC title this year. I recently subscribed to another Clemson site and I am just wondering if there is a little hype involved in their reporting of how things are shaping up. Thanks for your consideration, Bill in Easley Bill, Thanks for the kind words. I think Clemson can win the conference. They could have easily won it last year with just one more ACC regular season win. This year's team has fewer question marks and more difference makers. The offensive line is deep and talented. I think Proctor will be more efficient in this offense. James Davis, Reggie Merriweather, and CJ Spiller make up the best backfield in the conference. Defensively, there are depth concerns at DE and Bandit. I am a little concerned about corner, but they have recruited well at both from the incoming class. I think the return game will be much better, plus the schedule eases up a bit. Hope this helps. Mickey, I loved reading your blog. Thank you for doing that. Be sure to have someone proof it before you post it. Hey, I am interested in news on this wide receiver who is big for his size and will create a lot of problems for defenses...can't think of his name. You really didn't mention that he is being factored into a lot of the offense's plans. I love to read the behind the scenes stuff that you're privy to. Like The 2 back set info. I haven't heard that. Shoot, that is 3 very talented backs...and I think you're saying that Chancellor is not bad either. Wow, what a great problem to have. And to think they'll be behind that O line. Clemson nation is getting excited. Thanks man, one of your faithful listeners, Mark from Easley Mark, Thanks for the nice things you said. I am the worst typist and proofer in the world, but we will try to get better on the typos and grammar so stay with me. I know it can't get much worse. The big wide out you asked about is Aaron Kelly. He had a nice freshman year and can be as good as he wants to be. If he works hard he will make an even bigger impact in the upcoming season. Last year he caught 47 balls for 575 yards and two touchdowns including the fantastic TD grab against FSU. Kelly's 70 all-purpose yards per game ranked third on the team behind Stuckey and Davis. Kelly lead the team with a 26.2 yards per return in the kick off returns including an 81-yarder that should have won the Georgia Tech game. He will continue to be a big part of the offense. Clemson nation should be excited. This program has improved to the level of conference title contender. It should be a lot of fun to watch. Hey Mickey, I have heard that Will Korn is a tremendous baseball player and could easily be a pretty good draft choice for MLB. Do we stand the chance of losing him to the pro baseball, i.e.Jeff Francour??? Thanks, Bennett Bennett, No. Korn is an outstanding high school shortstop, but is not being considered for the MLB draft. He is football first. MP, Are we gonna see that stupid punt formation again this year? Will they punt in the spring game? Tiger Tom TT, The staff has made changes to the protection scheme for the punt team. You will see more of a traditional protection. Originally I thought they would not punt on Saturday against a live rush, but it sounds like it may be more of a game format. Hope you will like the new punt team. Mickey, There are several football players that there has been little or no information released on. What is the outlook for Taylor Tremel, Jamarcus Grant, and Elsmore Gabriel???? Thanks, Tony Tony, Tremel and Gabriel are players that really should not be expected to see huge amounts of playing time during their career. Both have limitations and quite frankly the staff has recruited over their ability. In other words the staff has signed better players at their positions. Grant is a different story. He has a big upside as an interior offensive lineman. Brad Scott likes his potential. Grant is a big body who will be counted on a lot after the 2006 season. Frye and Bennett are seniors this season and McDuffie will be a junior. The future at the guard positions includes Thomas Austin and Grant. The Mullins, SC native will be counted on as a sophomore and beyond.Mickey's new Blog brought to you by:
