Maryland vs Clemson Post-game Notes

by -

• Clemson took its first lead of the game on a two-yard touchdown run by Reggie Merriweather 59:37 into the game. For Merriweather, it marked the second straight week in which he scored a touchdown on the ground.

• Clemson has now scored a touchdown with less than two minutes left in the game for the second time this season. The Tigers opened the year by scoring a touchdown late in the Wake Forest contest to send the game into overtime. Today, the two-yard run was enough to give Clemson a 10-7 win.

• Clemson's defense held Maryland to 194 total yards, including just 83 yards on 37 rushing attempts.

• Cole Chason's first punt was blocked by David Holloway, the first punt Clemson has had blocked since the 2002 N.C. State game. Chason recovered with a career-best 45.0-yard gross punting average on eight kicks.

• Jamaal Fudge had perhaps his best performance of the season for Clemson. The junior rover had an interception for the second straight game. In addition, he broke up three passes for the Tiger defense.

• Tye Hill had three pass breakups in the first half, giving him a total of 11 so far this season.

• Maurice Fountain had two tackles for loss in the game. He had only three coming into today's game.

• Clemson's scoring drive at the end of the second quarter was its longest of the season. It covered 73 yards on 18 plays and ate up a total of 7:21 of the clock. The drive resulted in a 21-yard field goal by Jad Dean. The 18 plays were the most by the Tiger offense since a 19-play drive against Virginia in 2002.

• Justin Miller recorded his first interception since the Duke game of 2003. His first of the season sealed the victory for Clemson. Miller also had a pass breakup and 51 punt return yards for the Tigers.
