Clemson, SC-Broome High School wide receiver Markish Jones has signed a national letter of intent with the Clemson football program. Jones had signed with Clemson on Feb. 7, but had not faxed in his letter-of-intent. He then signed a letter with another Division I
institution and faxed it to that school But, the National Letter of
Intent service has ruled that since he and his mother had signed the Clemson document first, that the Clemson letter was binding.

Jones was the South Carolina offensive MVP of the Shrine Bowl and he is listed as a four-star prospect by the major recruiting services. He had 40 receptions for 1,030 yards and 13 touchdowns this season on offense and had five interceptions on defense. He was a 2006 four-event state champion in track as well.

"This is icing on the cake for an already strong 2007 recruiting class," said Clemson Head Coach Tommy Bowden. "Markish is one of the top prep players in the East and we are very excited that he has signed a letter of intent with Clemson. He is an outstanding all-around athlete, who not only excelled on the football field, but also in track. I know our track coaches are excited by what Jacoby Ford and C.J. Spiller are doing this semester, and I know Markish can have a similar impact."

"We want to thank our compliance office led by Stephanie Ellison, the support of President Jim Barker and university attorney Clay Steadman, Coach Tommy Bowden and his staff during this process," said Clemson Athletic Director Dr. Terry Don Phillips.
"Their work in concert was very important in getting this unusual situation resolved"
