LeAnthony Williams: Not committed, but decision coming soon |
LeAnthony Williams didn’t commit to Clemson this past weekend, but his announcement will be coming sooner rather than later.
Who will the consensus 4-star out of Roswell (GA) pick? We will know Thursday. The 6-0, 175-pound defensive back made the trip to Clemson this past weekend with his family, and Twitter came alive Saturday evening when there was a mistaken announcement that Williams had pulled the trigger on a Clemson commitment. Not so, says Williams, but he doesn’t hold grudges. “I haven't committed yet, and there are things that are in the process right now,” Williams told TigerNet in an exclusive interview Monday afternoon. “But, I'm not committed anywhere yet, not even a silent commit. I wasn't really mad or anything. I just wanted people to ask me first before they start putting stuff out about me. But it's cool.” Williams said that last weekend’s visit was better than expected, but he also needed to go home and think things over. “The coaches were showing all their love, and it was great talking to Coach (Mike) Reed and Coach (Dabo) Swinney and Coach (Tony) Elliott,” he said. “They are considering me really big as an athlete but want me to take my time and make sure everything is right. It was great being a part of the photo shoot and getting to know Clemson better. They meet all of my requirements for a major. They are a great fit for me.” Williams is ranked No. 186 in the ESPN Jr. 300 and holds 20 offers, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Louisville, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. Williams said he’s still mulling over his decision, but he will put out a condensed list on Wednesday. “I will put out my top four Wednesday and then I will pick my school Thursday,” he said. “Clemson is definitely on that list. It's just them showing so much love throughout the recruiting process, and they put an emphasis on the family situation. They want you to be able to feel comfortable at the university.” Helping Clemson’s cause is the relationship Williams has with secondary coach Reed and former teammate Tre Lamar, a 5-star linebacker who enrolled at Clemson in January. “As a person, Coach Reed is amazing. He is very easy to talk to. He and my dad talk almost every day. I talk to him every chance I get. But Coach Reed is an amazing person,” Williams said. “My former teammate Tre Lamar is already there. He just enrolled at Clemson not too long ago.
