Korn leaving Clemson for Marshall

Korn completed 46 of 66 passes for 406 yards and three touchdowns in three years with the Tigers.

CLEMSON – Clemson quarterback Willy Korn will hold a press conference scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday at Clemson’s West End Zone, where he will announce his decision to transfer to Marshall University.

If Korn graduates from Clemson this spring, and all indications point to that happening, he would have two seasons of eligibility remaining and wouldn't have to sit out a season if he transfers to a Football Bowl Subdivision program and enters a graduate program unavailable at Clemson.

Korn visited the Thundering Herd a couple of weekends ago, and felt that with new head coach Doc Holliday and his staff, he will have a chance to compete for the starting job at the Conference USA school.

Marshall went 7-6 this past season and hired Doc Holliday as its head coach in December.

The Thundering Herd are scheduled to return three quarterbacks, including Landrum High School product Mark Cann, and rising redshirt freshman A.J. Graham, Florida's 2008 3A Player of the Year. The Thundering Herd also signed two quarterbacks on Wednesday’s National Signing Day.

Korn started one game at Clemson, two years ago against Georgia Tech, but battled injury issues throughout his Clemson career. He injured his throwing shoulder in that start against the Yellow Jackets, on the 14th play, and had shoulder surgery after the 2008 season. He completed 46 of 66 passes for 406 yards and three touchdowns in three years with the Tigers.

Last year, he played in six games, going 12-of-17 for 90 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He also ran for a touchdown.

Korn's credentials out of James F. Byrnes High School were impressive, and many Clemson fans thought and hoped he would start all four years of his Clemson career. He was rated the No. 5 dual-threat QB in the country by Rivals, was the No. 7 QB by SuperPrep and No. 8 by Scout.com, as well as Tom Lemming's No. 25 prospect. He chose Clemson over Georgia Tech and South Carolina.
