Clemson continued to stockpile impressive verbal commitments on Monday as Walterboro High School’s Keith Kelly announced his plans to play for Tommy Bowden and the Tigers.

Kelly is rated as the #19 running back in the nation by ESPN’s Tom Lemming and the fourth best power running back in the country by USA Today’s Max Emfinger. Mickey Plyler rates Kelly as the second-best prospect in the state of South Carolina. Both Lemming and Plyler compare Kelly to Tennessee’s Jamal Kelly.

A 6-0 217-pound bruiser with 4.5 speed, Kelly says that Clemson stuck with him despite a thigh bruise that hampered him during his senior season at Walterboro.

“I’ve been doing some thinking about all of the schools that offered me that slacked off when I got injured. Before I got injured, Clemson was there. When I got injured, Clemson was there. Then, when I came back they were still there. They showed a lot of interest in me and I just felt comfortable in that atmosphere,” Kelly said late Monday night.

Clemson recruiting coordinator Rick Stockstill was Kelly’s main contact with the Tigers. Kelly said he and “Coach Stock” built a strong relationship during the recruiting process.

“He was honest and truthful with me and we got along very well,” Kelly said.

“I fell comfortable around all of the coaches. I just felt that this was the right time to do this.”

Kelly joins DB Ryan Hemby and OL Sean Young among the Tiger’s early verbal commitments. JUCO QB Chad Elliot and JUCO OL Derrick Brantley have already committed to the Tigers and plan to enroll at Clemson in January.
