Junior Day Insider: Recruits are "fired up about the future of Clemson football"

Clemson’s elite junior day featured some of the best offensive linemen from the class of 2020, and those linemen hope to make the Tigers’ overall 2020 class one of the best ever.

Several top prospects from around the country descended on Clemson for the Tigers’ first junior day of 2019, and that included commits John Williams, Paul Tchio, and Walker Parks, and several uncommitted prospects. That included 4-star tackle prospect Bryn Tucker out of Knoxville (TN) Knoxville Catholic, who picked up a Clemson offer on the visit.

The group traveled on the same bus around campus and did a photo shoot together, part of a big day for a coaching staff that picked up commitments from 4-star linebacker Kevin Swint and 4-star defensive tackle Tre Williams.

John Williams said it was a good day to be a Tiger.

“I enjoyed the junior day. I’m always looking for an excuse to get up to Clemson and see the coaches and prospects,” Williams told TigerNet. “I always have fun being around the other commits and recruits. I also enjoyed being able to welcome two new commits into the group. It’s always special to be able to do that.”

Williams said the two newest commits – and possible commits – show how special the 2020 class can be.

“We are getting better and better with every day and we all have a grasp of our potential as a class,” he said. “We all are excited about what we can bring to Clemson and we are always trying to make 2020 better.”

Parks agreed.

“Junior day went really well. A lot of talent was there, and it was a successful day,” Parks said. “We had two guys join and I think we are gonna have more join us soon. I’ve very excited to see what we are able to do. There is an unbelievable amount of talent in our class already and we aren’t even full yet. I’m honored to be a part of such a great group headed to Clemson.”

Williams said he had fun spending time with the linemen.

“Oh, it was really fun to be with the other offensive line commits. We all already share a strong bond which will continue to grow as we continue,” he said. “The only thing that would have made it better is if I could have worn pads. We got to take a picture with it (the National Championship trophy), and the team and recruits are fired up about the future of Clemson football.”

The highlight of the day was a presentation by head coach Dabo Swinney on what it takes to be a Tiger. Tucker – the newest offensive line offer – said he was blown away by the presentation and now has Clemson in his top three (story to come in a bit).

Williams said Swinney’s message resonated with the prospects.

“Yeah, he was there the whole day. He had a presentation prepared for us at the end of it all. He talked about what Clemson means and what it takes to be a Tiger,” Williams said. “In the words of Coach Swinney, the path to Clemson is very narrow. Being a good football player is one of the smallest boxes. Clemson is all about serving the hearts of their players and not their talents. You have to be a person of integrity, determination, motivation, and sportsmanship to make it at Clemson.”
