CLEMSON -- Asheville, N.C. (Asheville HS) defensive end Jeoffrey Pagan committed to Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney this morning in an exit interview.

Pagan (6-4, 255) is the No. 3-rated player at his position in the nation, the No. 2 player in the state of North Carolina and the 36th-best player in the nation regardless of position.

Pagan picked the Tigers over Georgia and Alabama. He once was committed to Florida but backed off that following the coaching change.

His head coach at Asheville, Danny Wilkins, said Clemson landed a good one.

“He has tons of potential,” Wilkins told TigerNet. “He has only played with his hand on the ground for two years now. He is an explosive, quick, big guy. I think he is going to do well in the classroom at Clemson, and he is going to be a great player for them.”

Wilkins said he spoke with Pagan, who told him of the commitment.

“He used the word ‘great’ to describe the visit,” Wilkins said. “He made it sound like he had a great time. He is a great kid, and he has a lot of work to do. He is a naïve kid in a lot of ways, a boy in a man’s body. I think he would tell you that. But he is going to be a good one.”

As a junior, Pagan had five sacks and 11 tackles for loss, and also intercepted two passes, returning one for a touchdown. This past season, Pagan had 52 tackles (11 for loss) and 14 sacks but tore two ligaments in his right knee in the second round of playoffs. He had surgery in late November and is expected to need at least 8 months to recover. Pagan was selected to both the Shrine Bowl and the U.S. Army All-American Bowl but could not play in either due to the injury.

Pagan is the 24th commitment for Clemson's 2011 class.
