Jamison Could See First Action vs. FSU |
CLEMSON - Under normal circumstances, experimenting with an untested player
in a nationally televised road game against Florida State might not be the best decision in the world. Yet that may be exactly what Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden has in mind for Vontrell Jamison. Jamison, the 6-foot-8, 260 pounder who moved from defensive end to offensive tackle two weeks ago, could see his first action Thursday backing up starter William Henry on the right side. Underline the word "could." "We're looking for Vontrell to make some progress during the open date," Bowden said. "We're looking for William to make some progress, too. William's only started two games and made improvement from game one to game two." The push to get Jamison on the field is understandable. A junior college transfer with no redshirt year available, Jamison has three years of eligibility remaining, one of which has already ticked away four games without his appearing in a game. If he can learn the position quickly, Jamison would provide Clemson with a big, athletic right tackle with NFL-type potential. But before that is even discussed, the little things must come first. "Assignments are going to be the biggest things," Bowden said. "He's a big tall guy, so leverage, staying low (is important). And steps, your that far away and just a little bit of misstep and you're beat." Dan Scott covers Clemson University for the Florence Morning News.
