Jamie Harper to enter NFL Draft - Updated |
CLEMSON -- ESPN's Joe Schad is reporting Clemson running back Jamie Harper will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft in April. In 12 regular season games this year, Harper had 177 carries for 726 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also caught 31 passes for 308 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Harper had 20 carries for 34 yards in Clemson's loss to USF in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. "I feel prepared for this," Harper told Schad. "I feel my coaches have prepared me to be a hard-nosed professional football player." "I learned a lot from guys like C.J. (Spiller) and James (Davis) and I feel good about my Clemson career." The deadline for juniors to declare for the draft is January 15. They can withdraw their name by January 21 if they haven't signed with an agent. UPDATE: A source close to the situation has told TigerNet that Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney plans to talk to Harper on Tuesday about the draft so there will be no official announcement from the school until that time. UPDATE: Harper tweeted after the annoucement was made: "My Clemson family is making it hard for me to leave. I love ya'll" and then "Yeah I'm gone fam. to the NFL" UPDATE: Greenville News is reporting the Harper has already signed with an agent which means Harper can not change his mind in a meeting next week with Swinney.
