James Davis Back on Campus, Preparing for Tuesday's Pro Day

by - Senior Writer -

CLEMSON – Former Clemson running back James Davis was in Clemson Monday afternoon preparing for Tuesday’s Pro Day, in which he will perform a series of skill tests for pro scouts, but did take time out of his schedule to watch his former teammates practice.

However, instead of watching the offense on which he played for four seasons, Davis spent most of his time watching the defense.

“I really wasn’t looking at the offense a lot,” Davis said to the media after practice. “I was looking at the defense. They were getting after the offense. They were really good. “

Really good is what Davis hopes to be for the scouts on Tuesday as he tries to change some of the perceptions of him before the draft. Scouts already know he has the ability to turn the corner, has excellent vision and balance, and can be a power runner, but there are concerns about his speed, elusiveness and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.

Davis said he has been in training to address those concerns, and has even shed a few pounds.

“I have been losing weight to see how fast I can really be,” Davis said. “We are probably going to see all that I can do, gonna try and run the 40, catch some balls and do some drills.”

Davis said that the Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears have shown the most interest, while Tampa Bay, Indianapolis and Jacksonville have also talked to him. However, he said that none of that changes how he is going to prepare for Tuesday.

“I don’t really feel any pressure,” he said. “You just have to go out on the field and do what you do best.”
